GFest - The 2009 GayWise LGBT Arts Festival PDF  | Print |  E-mail

The programme for GFest - gayWise LGBT Arts Festival, known as GFest in short, London's lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans art festival, has been announced.

The event, now in its third year, is due to take place between November 9th and 22nd and will be held at various venues across the capital including Rich Mix, Cochrane Theater, McKenzie Pavilion in Finsbury Park and The Drill Hall.

Featured artists were selected by panel members for three categories: visual arts, short films and performances.

Among the work being showcased is The Jack & Jill Snapshots by Corrine Bot, a photography series of a young couple's daily routine in which Bot features as both the man and the woman.

Other visual artists include Matthew Stradling, Ozzy Yorulmaz and Sarah Ahmad.

The short films category includes Rock 'n' Roll Suicide by Nathan Evans, From the Diaries of Two Breasts by Beldan Sezen and Boy by Joe Morris.

Niranjan Kamatkar, artistic director of Wise Thoughts, the arts charity which organises the festival said: “Now in its third year, GFest 09 features the work of both established and emerging talent. We have taken some risks in selecting work that will challenge audiences. We are really proud and thrilled to announce its ever-expanding greater artistic contents."

He added: “Some GFest short films this year reflect a newfound, confident, queer sexuality of today's young people. The festival presents a majority of British or London based LGBT and queer artists but we are also pleased to showcase exciting talent from across the world – from the USA and Europe to Pakistan."

The festival will be launched at the end of October with an event hosted at the House of Commons by David Lammy, the minister of state for innovation, universities and skills.
