Black Heroes Nominated For Awards PDF  | Print |  E-mail

ImageThe 2008 black LGBT Community Awards has announced this year's nominees. The awards celebrate contribution to gay art, health, culture, communications, advocacy and community development. And one of our directors Eddie Lockhart is one of the four nominees in the Community Development category.

Battling it out in the same group is Dwayne Angel, gay youth group Out on Thursday and Miss Blu from the Lesbian group, Organik Blu.

Black gay police officer Gamal Turawa, Archivist Ajamu and Simon Nelson are in the running for man of the year.

Meanwhile, Mz Fontaine and Phyll from UK Black Pride are nominees for women of the year.

One of the most fiercely fought contests will be for club of the year, where possible winners are Bootylicious, Caribana, Soul Naturelle, Sugar Rush and Work at Heaven.

The ceremony will be held on a luxury cruise liner on the Thames on 20 September and is fast becoming a highlight of the black queer calendar. Visit website to get your tickets now.

Outburst UK are proud sponsors of this year's awards.
