BAME Community Shined At Pride London 2008 |

 Saturday 5 July saw the annual Pride London parade and rally, and the BAME community was out it force to make this a spectacular day. Official figures suggest that 500,000 people attended this year's event!
Dr. Robert Berkeley from BGMAG said: "We were very popular all day and that is due to the dedication and input of a number of people, from performers and artists, to all of those who gave their ideas, time and energy to making sure that the stage happened.
On the whole, the feedback that I received was very positive and there is a real mandate from the attendance to consider a similar area for next year.
Just goes to show that by pulling together we can create a fantastic showcase of the diversity of our communities and the contribution we make to LGBT and minority ethnic communities. I hope that next year we can build on what we delivered here and look forward to meeting with those interested in further establishing the Pride BAME stage as a crucial part of the festival."
This sentiment is echoed by Pav Akhtar, Chair of Imaan who siad: "Congratulations to all the Black community organisations who participated in the Pride march this year. I thought we looked great and did a fantastic job in trying circumstances, not to mention that the weather threathened to undue some of our hard work on the day. Thankfully the sun held out and we did ourselves, our cause, and the wider LGBT community absolutely proud! I'm really thrilled."
