Audacity – a Black History Month event
This unique event at the Gallery of Modern Art in Glasgow, Scotland has been developed by GoMA’s artist in residence Ajamu X. Audacity will provide a space for Black and Ethnic Minority LGBT experiences to be shared and explored. Saturday, 24 October 2009.

It will include a look at the work of the rukus! Federation’s Black LGBT Archive, a discussion about the challenges facing BME LGBT people in the artistic community and what creative and innovative methods are being used to make links in the arts with hard to reach BME communities.

Ajamu X will share his thoughts on importance of placing celebration and our own voices at the heart of community engagement.

This will be followed by the film "In This Our Lives – The Reunion". This film made by Topher Campbell (Theatre director and Film maker), commemorates the 20th Anniversary of the first and only national black gay men’s conference 1987.

There will also be an informal round table discussion, which will explore the challenges and possible creative solutions in reaching and working with BAME and LGBTI communities. The panel will include Sam King (Equality Network, Scotland), Jane Stranding, (Kairos in Soho, London) Amr (Al Jannah, Scotland), Andrew Prince (Outburst UK) and Korney Ryan Zeigler (Artist).

The day will conclude with the screening of "Nina Heavenly Delights" the first Asian lesbian film set in Scotland. Directed by Pratibha Parmer.
